Shrine Pilgrimage Weekend!
In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the promulgation of the Apostolic Constitution Anglicanorum coetibus, the Ordinariate of the Chair of St Peter is celebrating a Jubilee Year, from November 3rd, 2019 until September 27th, 2020 (the liturgical commemoration of Our Lady of Walsingham). The Holy Father has granted a Plenary Indulgence to all the faithful who make a “pious visit” to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham at our Cathedral in Houston, Texas throughout the Jubilee Year.
Bishop Lopes explains the Jubilee this way:
A Jubilee is a privileged time to give thanks to God for the graces we have received, to strengthen awareness of the Ordinariate and its mission, and to look forward with hope to the task of building up the Church that still stands before us.
A biblical understanding of Jubilee is intimately tied to an experience of God’s mercy. For this reason, I am particularly pleased that the Holy Father has granted a Plenary Indulgence for the celebration of our anniversary. The Jubilee Indulgence is granted on any day throughout the year to one who makes a pious visit to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham in Houston.
This celebration along with the special concession of the Plenary Indulgence attached to our Cathedral and Shrine give us the opportunity to deepen our dedication to Our Lady of Walsingham as a privileged expression of our English patrimony. The Cathedral staff has organized four Shrine Pilgrimage Weekends throughout the year, adding special events, liturgies, and receptions specifically geared towards the faithful of the Ordinariate
Our weekend is February 1st & 2nd, 2020, that Sunday being the Feast of the Presentation (“Candlemas”) and the anniversary of Bishop Lopes’ ordination to the episcopate.
You are invited to join Fr Allen and your brothers and sisters from Corpus Christi in Houston for this moment of grace at your Cathedral! Pilgrims are responsible for their own travel and hotel arrangements (see below for details).

"General Remarks on Indulgences"
The Holy Father, Pope Francis, has granted a plenary indulgence to all the faithful who attend an Ordinariate Mass on Sunday, November 3rd, in honor of the 10th Anniversary of the promulgation of Anglicanorum coetibus, the apostolic constitution establishing the personal ordinariates, and to all the faithful who make a pious visit to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham during the the Jubilee Year (Nov 3, 2019 - Sept 29, 2020).
General Remarks On Indulgences from the Apostolic Penitentiary (SOURCE)
1. This is how an indulgence is defined in the Code of Canon Law (can. 992) and in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (n. 1471): "An indulgence is a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven, which the faithful Christian who is duly disposed gains under certain prescribed conditions through the action of the Church which, as the minister of redemption, dispenses and applies with authority the treasury of the satisfactions of Christ and the saints".
2. In general, the gaining of indulgences requires certain prescribed conditions (below, nn. 3, 4), and the performance of certain prescribed works (nn. 8, 9, 10 indicate those specific to the Holy Year).
3. To gain indulgences, whether plenary or partial, it is necessary that the faithful be in the state of grace at least at the time the indulgenced work is completed.
4. A plenary indulgence can be gained only once a day. In order to obtain it, the faithful must, in addition to being in the state of grace:
— have the interior disposition of complete detachment from sin, even venial sin;
— have sacramentally confessed their sins;
— receive the Holy Eucharist (it is certainly better to receive it while participating in Holy Mass, but for the indulgence only Holy Communion is required);
— pray for the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff.
5. It is appropriate, but not necessary, that the sacramental Confession and especially Holy Communion and the prayer for the Pope's intentions take place on the same day that the indulgenced work is performed; but it is sufficient that these sacred rites and prayers be carried out within several days (about 20) before or after the indulgenced act. Prayer for the Pope's intentions is left to the choice of the faithful, but an "Our Father" and a "Hail Mary" are suggested. One sacramental Confession suffices for several plenary indulgences, but a separate Holy Communion and a separate prayer for the Holy Father's intentions are required for each plenary indulgence.
6. For the sake of those legitimately impeded, confessors can commute both the work prescribed and the conditions required (except, obviously, detachment from even venial sin).
7. Indulgences can always be applied either to oneself or to the souls of the deceased, but they cannot be applied to other persons living on earth.
