Family Prayers of the Anglican Patrimony
Family Prayers of the Anglican Patrimony
For Children
O LORD Jesus Christ, who dost embrace children with the arms of thy mercy, and dost make them living members of thy Church; Give them grace, we pray thee, to stand fast in thy faith, to obey thy word, and to abide in thy love; that, being made strong by thy Holy Spirit, they may resist temptation and overcome evil, and may rejoice in the life that now is, and dwell with thee in the life that is to come; through thy merits, O merciful Saviour, who with the Father and the Holy Ghost livest and reignest one God, world without end. Amen.
For Mothers
ALMIGHTY and eternal God, whose most dear Son was born of a woman: Grant thy merciful blessing to all mothers for whom we now pray, both those living in this world and those departed from this life. Especially, O Lord and Father of us all, grant the requests we now make of thee for our own beloved mothers and pour upon them, we beseech thee, the dew of thy grace that they may always be honoured of their children and kept precious in thy sight, even as the Holy Mother of our Saviour, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
For Fathers
O HEAVENLY Father, from whom all fatherhood in heaven and earth is named, and who hast commanded us to honour our mortal fathers; Bless, we beseech thee all Christian fathers, and give to them the spirit of wisdom and love; that their homes may be an image of thy kingdom, and the care of their families a likeness of their love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
World War I Centennial Remembrance: Bells of Peace
This Sunday, 11 November 2018, at 11.00AM, we mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. Corpus Christi Catholic Community and St Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church will join others across Charleston and across the United States in ringing our bells 21 times in solemn remembrance of the sacrifice and service of veterans of World War I. Tolling of bells is the traditional way to mark someone’s passing. On special national occasions, bells are tolled in honor of the fallen. In the war, 116,516 Americans died and over 200,000 were wounded.
11th Month, 11th Day, 11th Hour
(Armistice 100)
—Mary-Patrice Woehling
10:59. The seconds slowly trudge
Over the top of the eleventh hour
When shells and whiz bangs cease their lethal shower;
We hold our breath and watch the minute budge.
The church bells peal in joy, but time will judge
If this is lasting peace or brooding power.
On monuments crepe paper poppies flower;
What winds will fan the embers of this grudge?
In cold November, roses wither fast
In Picardy. Bare stalks in Flanders fields
Give way to frost where once the poppy yield
Was blood-splattered vermillion. Will peace last?
If only for this moment, we are blest.
The war is finished. Consummatum est.

Evensong & Benediction

Sunday, 28 October, 4pm
Let my prayer be set forth in thy sight as the incense;
and let the lifting up of my hands be an evening sacrifice.

Letter from Fr. Allen from the annual clergy assembly - October 25, 2018
+JMJ+
Dear Friends,
Greetings from the Cathedral of Our Lady of Walsingham and our Ordinariate Chancery in Houston, where I am attending the annual clergy assembly of the Ordinariate of the Chair of St Peter. The days are full of meetings, but also well seasoned with fellowship and prayer. As our diocese spans the continent, it is good to have this opportunity to see our bishop (who sends his greetings!) and my brother priests in the Ordinariate. Yesterday we had a beautiful choral evensong, for which we were joined by Archbishop Christoph Pierre, the papal nuncio (the Pope's personal representative) to the United States - a great honor for us and a reminder that the Ordinariates continue to have notice and care at the highest levels of the universal Church.
I can report to you that we continue to grow numbers, in ministry, and in spiritual vibrancy - indeed, the growth we have seen at Corpus Christi in the last year is being experienced across the Ordinariate. While here, we are having "business" meetings (administrative policies, safe environment guidelines, etc) and also conferences facilitated by the St John Paul II Foundation on ministry to families. We are also eating a lot.
Good as it is to be here, I look forward to returning home to my family and to seeing all of you at Mass on Sunday. Please remember this Sunday is also our monthly Evensong & Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament - do come and pray with us.
Thursday, November 1st, is All Saints Day, a holy day of obligation. Masses will be celebrated 8AM and 6PM.
Friday, November 2nd, is All Souls' Day, with Masses at 12PM and 6PM. Please see below for information about submitting names of loved ones to be remembered at these Masses.
God bless you,
Fr Allen
U.S. Bishops Will Gather for Seven Days of Prayer and Reflection at Invitation of Pope Francis
U.S. Bishops Will Gather for Seven Days of Prayer and Reflection at Invitation of Pope Francis
October 23, 2018
WASHINGTON— At the invitation of Pope Francis, the Bishops of the United States will gather for a spiritual retreat set to take place at Mundelein Seminary in the Archdiocese of Chicago. The bishops will gather in prayer and unity for seven days, from January 2-8, as brothers in the Episcopacy.
“The Holy Father has kindly offered the preacher to the Papal Household, Reverend Raniero Cantalamessa, O.F.M. Cap., to serve as the retreat director as we come together to pray on the intense matters before us. For this, I am grateful,” said Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo, Archbishop of Galveston-Houston and President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. “I am also grateful to Cardinal Blase Cupich for his kind offer to use the campus of Mundelein Seminary as the location for this retreat.”
The announcement comes after Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo met with the Pope earlier this month as part of a regularly scheduled Curia visit. The retreat takes place as the U.S. bishops continue their work to address the current U.S. clergy sex abuse crisis. In September, the U.S. bishops Administrative Committee http://www.usccb.org/news/2018/18-152.cfm announced an action plan including a third-party reporting mechanism, standards of conduct for bishops, and protocols for bishops resigned or removed because of abuse.
