Collect of the Day  Almighty God, give us grace that we may cast away the works of darkness, and put upon us the armour of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which thy Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility: that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the quick and the dead; we may rise to the life immortal; through the same Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Lesson  Isaiah 63.16d-17; 64.1, 3b-8  You, O LORD, art our Father, our Redeemer from of old is your name.  O LORD, why do you make us err from your ways and harden our heart, so that we do not fear you?  Return for the sake of your servants, the tribes of your heritage. O that you would tear the heavens and come down, that the mountains might quake at your presence! You came down, the mountains quaked at your presence.  From of old no one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides your, who works for those who wait for him.  You meet him that joyfully works righteousness, those that remember you in your ways. Epistle  1 Corinthians 1.3-9   Brethren: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.  I give thanks to God always for you because of the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus, that in every way you were enriched in him with all speech and all knowledge – even as the testimony to Christ was confirmed among you -- so that you are not lacking in any spiritual gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ; who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.  God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Gospel   Mark 13.33-37  At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, "Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time will come.  It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to be on the watch.  Watch therefore -- for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning -- lest he come suddenly and find you asleep.  And what I say to you I say to all: Watch."

Epistle  1 Corinthians 15.20-26, 28  Brethren: Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.  For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead.  For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.  But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ.  Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power.  For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.  The last enemy to be destroyed is death. MASS PROPERS for TRINITY XXIII

Collect of the Day  O God our refuge and strength, who art the author of all godliness: be ready, we beseech thee, to hear the devout prayers of thy Church; and grant that those things which we ask faithfully we may obtain effectually; through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord; who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. R/ Amen.

Lesson  Proverbs 31.10-13, 19-20, 30-31   Who can find a good wife?  She is far more precious than jewels.  The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain.  She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.  She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands. She puts her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle.  She opens her hand to the poor, and reaches out her hands to the needy. Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.  Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.

Epistle  1 Thessalonians 5.1-6  As to the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need to have anything written to you.  For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.  When people say, "There is peace and security," then sudden destruction will come upon them as labour pains come upon a woman with child, and there will be no escape.  But you are not in darkness, brethren, for that day to surprise you like a thief.  For you are all sons of light and sons of the day; we are not of the night or of darkness.  So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober.

Collect of the Day   Lord, we beseech thee to keep thy household the Church in perpetual godliness: that through thy protection she may be free from all adversities and devoutly given to serve thee in all good works, to the glory of thy Name; through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord; who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. R/ Amen.

Lesson   Wisdom 6.12-16  Wisdom is radiant and unfading, and she is easily discerned by those who love her, and is found by those who seek her. She hastens to make herself known to those who desire her. He who rises early to seek her will have no difficulty, for he will find her sitting at his gates. To fix one’s thought on her is perfect understanding, and he who is vigilant on her account will soon be free from care, because she goes about seeking those worthy of her, and she graciously appears to them in their paths, and meets them in every thought.

Epistle   1 Thessalonians 4.13-18   Brethren: we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ Then all those maidens rose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise replied, ‘Perhaps there will not be enough for us and for you; go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast; and the door was shut. Lesson   Malachi 1.14b-2.2b, 8-10  I am a great King, says the LORD of hosts, and my name is feared among the nations. "And now, O priests, this command is for you.  If you will not listen, if you will not lay it to heart to give glory to my name, says the LORD of hosts, then I will send the curse upon you. "You have turned aside from the way; you have caused many to stumble by your instruction; you have corrupted the covenant of Levi, says the LORD of hosts, and so I make you despised and abased before all the people, inasmuch as you have not kept my ways but have shown partiality in your instruction." Have we not all one father?  Has not one God created us?  Why then are we faithless to one another, profaning the covenant of our fathers?

Epistle   1 Thessalonians 2.7-9, 13   Brethren: we were gentle among you, like a nurse taking care of her children.  So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us.  For you remember our labour and toil, brethren; we worked night and day, that we might not burden any of you, while we preached to you the gospel of God.  And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers.

Gospel   Matthew 22.34-40   At that time: Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, "The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat; so practise and observe whatever they tell you, but not what they do; for they preach, but do not practise.  They bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with their finger.  They do all their deeds to be seen by men; for they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long, and they love the place of honour at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues, and salutations in the market places, and being called rabbi by men.  But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brethren.  And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven.  Neither be called masters, for you have one master, the Christ.  He who is greatest among you shall be your servant; whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted."

All Saints' & All Souls!

Don't miss this week's All Saints' and All Souls' celebrations! All Saints' is a holy day of obligation. Our All Souls' prayers will be perfected by the St Mary's choir's singing of the Duruflé setting of the Requiem Mass. This will be a privileged opportunity to hear one of the 20th century's greatest choral works sung in prayer and praise to God and for the repose of the souls of the faithful departed - that is, sung in the context and to the end for which it was composed. This Mass will be a great milestone in the life of our community, and as well a great opportunity to invite friends and family to worship with us "in the beauty of holiness."

Holy Day of Obligation
Holy Mass: Wednesday, Nov. 1st, 8AM & 6PM
Rejoice we all, and praise the Lord, celebrating a holy-day in honor of all the Saints  In whose solemnity the angels are joyful, and glorify the Son of God.

ALL SOULS' DAY
8AM & 7PM

At the 7PM Mass, the choir of St Mary's will sing the Maurice Duruflé setting of the Requiem Mass. Come hear one of the great works of 20th century choral art prayerfully performed in the setting and to the end for which it was composed. Mass will be in the Ordinariate Form, and Fr West will be the preacher.
A book of remembrance is being compiled for the names of those faithfully departed for whom these Masses will be offered. If you would like to add a name and donate a stipend, please contact Becky at the parish office (email; 843.722.7696).

All Souls' Rosary

At 12pm on All Souls' Day (11/2), Fr Allen will lead a "rosary walk" through the St Mary's churchyard and then be available to hear confessions so that you may gain the Indulgences the Church offers on behalf of the Holy Souls in Purgatory. Learn about these indulgences here!

Lesson   Exodus 22.21-27  Thus Thus says the LORD: "You shall not wrong a stranger or oppress him, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.  You shall not afflict any widow or orphan.  If you do afflict them, and they cry out to me, I will surely hear their cry; and my wrath will burn, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall become widows and your children fatherless.  "If you lend money to any of my people with you who is poor, you shall not be to him as a creditor, and you shall not exact interest from him.  If ever you take your neighbour's garment in pledge, you shall restore it to him before the sun goes down; for that is his only covering, it is his mantle for his body; in what else shall he sleep? And if he cries to me, I will hear, for I am compassionate.”

Epistle   1 Thessalonians 1.5c-10  Brethren: You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.  And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with joy inspired by the Holy Spirit; so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia.  For not only has the word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything.  For they themselves report concerning us what a welcome we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols, to serve a living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.

Gospel   Matthew 22.34-40   At that time: When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they came together.  And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, to test him.  "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the great and first commandment.  And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbour as yourself.  On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets."
